Today’s post features Serena’s skirt-and-sweater ensemble, a new creation from Sorumin for The Arcade. Aardvark has knocked it out of the park again, this time with the hilariously adorable Kitty Carriage, a new release for the current round of Equal10. Take your feline friend for a leisurely stroll in your choice of ten carriage colors, accompanied by one of seven different Animesh cats. A HUD lets you change colors and toggle the kitty’s bow on or off. A fatpack is also available with all cat and color options.

But… if you’re expecting a sweet little kitty who will sit quietly and enjoy the scenery, think again. This cat has opinions. It hisses. It growls. It claws at the carriage. It even stops to lick itself in a rather compromising position. Occasionally, it will purr and sit politely—but apparently only when it feels like it. In other words, Luna’s grumpy passenger in today’s story isn’t much of an exaggeration! Stop by Equal10 and pick up a Kitty Carriage of your own.

The Story

Serena knew their lunch plans had taken an unexpected turn the moment Luna opened the door.

“Ready?” Serena asked, lifting her coffee.

“Almost. I need to do one thing first.”

Those were dangerous words coming from Luna.

Serena had arrived expecting lunch, possibly shopping afterward, and—if they were feeling ambitious—coffee and something involving entirely too much whipped cream. Instead, Luna disappeared into the house and returned pushing what appeared to be a very expensive baby carriage.

Inside sat a Siamese cat.

Serena stared.

The cat stared back.

“Is that for the cat?”

“Gavin says fresh air and a little stimulation might be good for her,” Luna explained. “She’s getting older, she sleeps most of the day, and she doesn’t move around as much as she used to. He suggested taking her out for short walks.”

Serena nodded. It sounded exactly like something Gavin would suggest. Her veterinarian fiancé was forever finding ways to improve the lives of elderly pets.

The Siamese narrowed her yellow eyes at Serena.

“She looks thrilled.”

“She’ll get used to it.”

The cat hissed.

“Any minute now,” Luna added.

They set off down the street, Serena carrying her coffee while Luna pushed the carriage. For about thirty seconds, everything went beautifully.

Then a leaf blew past.

MROWWWW!

Luna jumped.

“It was a leaf,” she told the carriage.

The cat hissed at the leaf.

A bicycle passed them.

MROWWWW!

A golden retriever appeared across the street.

HISSSSSSS!

The retriever stopped, stared at the carriage, and apparently decided that whatever was inside it was above his pay grade. He hurried after his owner.

Serena pressed her lips together.

“Don’t,” Luna warned.

“I didn’t say anything.”

“You’re laughing.”

“I’m not.”

“You’re shaking.”

Serena took a suspiciously long drink of coffee.

They made it another half block before the cat began providing angry commentary about a delivery truck, two children on scooters, a wind chime, a squirrel, and an elderly man watering his chrysanthemums.

The man peered into the carriage.

“Oh! What a pretty kitty.”

HISSSSSSS!

He straightened. “Well. Have a nice day.”

By now, Serena had abandoned all attempts at dignity. “Gavin said this was supposed to be relaxing?” she asked.

“For the cat. It is not relaxing for me.”

The cat let out another howl.

“Or the cat,” Serena conceded.

At the corner, they stopped beneath a brilliant orange tree while Luna checked on her disgruntled passenger. The Siamese sat stiffly in the carriage, ears slightly flattened, glaring at the world as though she intended to file a formal complaint about every person, animal, vehicle, and piece of vegetation they had encountered.

“Maybe we should go home,” Luna said.

Serena glanced toward the little café another block away. “Or…”

Luna followed her gaze.

Ten minutes later, they were seated at an outdoor table with sandwiches, fries, and fresh coffees. The carriage was parked safely beside Luna’s chair, its canopy pulled partly forward to give its passenger a cozy hiding place.

For the first time all afternoon, the Siamese was silent.

Luna cautiously peeked inside.

“She’s asleep.”

Serena smiled. “See? Gavin was right. Fresh air wore her out.”

Luna gave her a look. “After she terrorized half the neighborhood.”

“Yes, but she did it outdoors.”

A tiny, sleepy meow came from beneath the canopy.

Luna reached inside and scratched gently beneath the old cat’s chin. This time there was no hiss. Just a rumbling purr.

Luna’s expression softened.

“All right,” she whispered. “Maybe we’ll try it again tomorrow.”

One yellow eye opened.

Hiss.

Serena nearly choked on a French fry.

Tomorrow, apparently, was still under negotiation.
