The Story
Ella Rose wasn’t entirely sure if it was still morning or already afternoon—the kind of soft, in-between hour where time felt like it had loosened its grip. Everything around her felt bathed in a gentle glow, as if the world had decided—just for today—to lean into something softer.
Pink vibes only.
She hadn’t planned that, exactly. But as she stood there in her pale pink dress, iced pink drink in hand, it felt like the mood had chosen her.
Her phone buzzed.
Serena.
Ella Rose smiled before answering. “If you’re about to interrogate me…”
“I am about to interrogate you,” Serena cut in immediately. “How did it go?”
Ella Rose let out a soft laugh, turning slightly so the sunlight caught the edge of her drink, turning it translucent and rosy. “Good morning to you, too.”
“It is not morning. Do not deflect.”
Ella Rose took a sip, buying time. Sweet, cold, a little indulgent. “It was… nice.”
There was a beat of silence.
“Nice,” Serena repeated flatly. “Ella Rose…”
“Okay, fine,” she said, smiling despite herself. “It was more than nice.”
“Thank you. Continue.”
Ella Rose shifted her weight, letting herself relax into the moment—and the memory. “It was easy. You know? Not awkward, not forced. We just… talked. For hours.”
“That’s dangerous,” Serena said. “That’s how feelings sneak up on you.”
“I’m aware,” Ella Rose said lightly, though her voice softened. “He listens. Like really listens.”
Serena didn’t respond right away this time, and when she did, there was something gentler in her tone. “You liked him.”
Ella Rose watched a swirl of pink petals tumble across the square, catching on the leg of a nearby café chair. “I think I did. Do.”
“Did he walk you home?”
“Of course.”
“And?”
Ella Rose smiled, a little to herself now. “He hesitated. At the door. Like he didn’t want to assume anything.”
“Oh no,” Serena murmured. “Not the respectful hesitation.”
“I know,” Ella Rose laughed. “It was… kind of perfect.”
“And you said?”
“That I had a good time.”
“And he said?”
“He asked if we could do it again.”
Serena didn’t even try to hide her excitement. “There it is.”
Ella Rose adjusted her sunglasses, feeling the warmth of the moment settle in—not overwhelming, just… light. Like everything was exactly as it should be.
“We’re getting coffee this weekend,” she added.
“Coffee,” Serena said approvingly. “Classic. Manageable. High potential.”
“You sound like you’re evaluating a research subject.”
“I am. You.”
Ella Rose shook her head, smiling, and glanced down at herself: the soft pink tones, the little matching purse, even the drink in her hand. She hadn’t meant to match the day, but somehow she had.
Pink vibes only.
“I just stopped for a drink,” she said, starting to walk again. “But now I’ve been standing here talking to you for ten minutes.”
“And I regret nothing,” Serena replied. “Also, outfit details later. I assume you stunned.”
Ella Rose smirked. “I did okay.”
“Unacceptable answer. We’ll revisit.”
“Of course we will.”
“Call me later,” Serena said. “I want the full story.”
“You already got it.”
“I got the highlight reel.”
Ella Rose laughed, the sound bright and easy as she stepped fully into the sunlit path. “Fine. Later.”
She ended the call and slipped her phone away, lifting her drink again as she walked. The world felt soft, warm, just a little romantic in a way she wasn’t quite ready to name.
But she didn’t need to.
For now, it was enough to exist in it, to carry it with her like the faint blush of color that seemed to follow her wherever she went.
Pink vibes only. 💗
