About the Images

The poses in the first image are part of a new set by -Extra- called Dockside Daydream, and they couldn’t be more perfect for a lazy afternoon by the water. The Story

The sun hung low in the sky, casting a soft golden glow over the still waters of the lake. A gentle breeze rustled the trees along the shoreline, their reflections shimmering across the ripples like brushstrokes on a painting. Serena and her younger sister, Sage, lay sprawled across the wooden dock behind Serena’s house, legs dangling over the edge, toes skimming the warm surface of the water.

It was the kind of afternoon that begged for nothing but stillness.

Serena leaned back on her hands, letting the breeze play with her hair as she listened to the quiet rhythm of nature. Dressed in a sunshine-yellow tank and dark denim shorts, she looked every bit the picture of summer ease. Beside her, Sage lay on her stomach, tracing lazy circles in the lake with her fingertips. She wore a soft floral top, denim shorts, and a cap with a cherry patch stitched on the front, a recent thrift store find she insisted gave her “good vibes.”

“Do you ever wonder what the fish think when we do this?” Sage asked, flicking water toward a lily pad with exaggerated care.

Serena laughed softly. “They probably think we’re the laziest predators they’ve ever seen.”

A little bark drew their attention to the far end of the dock, where Serena’s Chihuahua had just noticed a butterfly flitting dangerously close to his nose. He pounced forward, more enthusiastic than graceful, and landed with a little yip, sending the butterfly spiraling away in a panic.

“Murphy!” Serena called. “Leave the poor thing alone!”

Murphy paused just long enough to glance back at them, tongue lolling happily out of his mouth, before flopping onto the sun-warmed wood. He wasn’t much of a hunter, just a loyal tagalong with a big personality.

Sage smiled. “He’s living his best life.”

“Aren’t we all?” Serena replied.

They sat in silence for a while, listening to the birdsong and the distant hum of cicadas. It had been years since they’d had this kind of time together—no schedules, no obligations, no deadlines. Sage was home from university for the summer, and Serena was taking some time off from her work. For once, the world didn’t feel like it was rushing them.

“I’ve missed this,” Sage said, her voice soft. “Just hanging out. Doing nothing. Sister time.”

“Me too.” Serena reached over and plucked a small daisy from behind Sage’s ear, tucking it gently into her own hair. “It’s funny how easy it is to forget what doing nothing feels like.”

Sage rolled onto her back and stared up at the sky. “Maybe that’s what summer is for. Relearning how to just… be.”

Serena smiled, the words echoing in her heart. They were surrounded by so much life—dragonflies darting across the water, frogs croaking in the reeds, the occasional splash of a fish leaping for a fly—and yet the stillness made it feel like time had stopped, just for them.

The sun dipped a little lower, tinting the sky in warm hues of peach and rose. A few clouds drifted lazily overhead, and the breeze began to carry the scent of wildflowers and pine. Serena sighed, a long breath of contentment, and stretched her legs out farther over the edge of the dock.

Sage reached down and touched the water again, sending another gentle ripple across the surface. “Promise me we’ll do this again before I go back to school.”

“Promise,” Serena said, without hesitation. “As many times as you want.”

As the butterfly returned, this time landing fearlessly on Murphy’s ear, they both burst out laughing.

Some afternoons didn’t need plans. They just needed a dock, a dog, and someone you love beside you.
