About the Images
I felt like it was finally time to move the story forward… and after nearly thirteen years together, this felt like exactly the right moment for Gavin and Serena to take that next step. Some stories are meant to simmer, and this one has been worth the wait (for me, at least).
Featured in this post is the gorgeous Frost & Chandeliers backdrop by Synnergy.Tavis. The scene centers on a snowy gazebo, softly lit and surrounded by frost-covered trees and twinkling lights, creating a setting that feels both intimate and quietly magical. There’s even a garden table and chairs just out of frame, making it easy to imagine lingering here long after the moment itself. Stop by the Synnergy.Tavis mainstore to take a look at the demo.
As always, thank you for following along with their story. We hope you had a warm, wonderful Christmas, dear readers! 🎄

The Story
Dinner came first… because Gavin would never rush a moment like this.
He had insisted on making reservations weeks ago, choosing Serena’s favorite restaurant without saying a word. The place only truly came alive in winter, when the windows fogged with warmth and the glow of candles turned every table into its own small world. Outside, snow tapped gently against the glass; inside, soft music played just low enough that conversations felt private.
Serena noticed him the moment they sat down. The new suit… tailored, dark, and sharp. The clean line of his jaw where his beard had always been. The fresh haircut that made him look a little younger, a little nervous.
“You look… different,” she said, studying him over the rim of her wineglass.
He smiled, fingers tightening briefly around his own glass. “Different good, I hope.”
“Very good,” she said, laughing. “And very handsome.”
Dinner unfolded slowly. They talked about work, about holiday plans, about memories from other Christmases, some messy, some perfect. Gavin listened more attentively than usual, like he was storing each moment away. Once or twice, Serena noticed him glance at the time, his knee bouncing slightly beneath the table.
When dessert arrived, he barely touched it.
Afterward, he stood and offered her his arm. “Let’s go for a walk.”
“In this weather?” she asked, smiling as she slipped her arm through his.
“It’s Christmas Eve,” he said. “I promise I won’t let you freeze.”
Outside, the air was crisp and clean, snow drifting down in soft, unhurried flakes. Streetlights glowed as they walked, their footsteps crunching in quiet rhythm. Serena leaned into him, noticing the unfamiliar smoothness of his cheek against her temple.
“I miss your beard,” she teased.
He laughed. “I’ll grow it back. I promise.”
The path curved into a small park, and then Serena saw it.
The gazebo stood at the center, glowing like something lifted straight from a storybook. Evergreen trees surrounded it, their branches dusted with snow and wrapped in delicate white lights. Lanterns hung at each corner, casting warm circles of gold on the ground. Garlands lined the railings, woven with deep red ribbon and silver accents that shimmered softly.
She stopped walking.
“Oh,” she breathed.
Gavin watched her reaction, relief washing over his face. “Luna and Ella Rose helped me decorate earlier today,” he said quietly. “I had ideas. They made them real.”
Serena turned slowly, taking it all in: the care, the intention, the love stitched into every detail. “It’s perfect,” she said.
“Do you remember,” Gavin said, his voice careful, steady in the way it got when he’d rehearsed something too many times, “when we first started dating, and you said Christmas lights made everything feel possible?”
Serena smiled, breath blooming in the cold. “I still think that.”
He nodded, once, as if confirming something to himself. Then he took her hands, holding them firmly, grounding himself. Serena could feel his nerves now, the faint tremble beneath his calm.
“I know the past few months haven’t been easy,” he said. “I worked too much. Missed evenings with you. I hated that. But every extra shift was for this… for the future I want with you.”

He stepped back.
And then he knelt.
The sound of his knee pressing into the snow felt impossibly loud. He opened the velvet box, the ring catching the light as if the night itself had leaned in.
“Serena,” he said, looking up at her, voice steady and sure. “Christmas is your favorite holiday because it’s about love and warmth and the people who matter most. You are all of that to me. You are my love and my home. Will you marry me?:
Tears blurred her vision. She laughed and cried all at once, nodding before words would come.
“Yes,” she said. “Yes, Gavin.”
He stood quickly, hands shaking as he slid the ring onto her finger, then pulled her into his arms. Snow settled into her hair, onto his suit, melting as they held each other tightly.
They stayed there beneath the gazebo for a long moment, wrapped together in the glow of the lights, the world quiet and whole.
As they finally pulled apart, Serena glanced down and noticed something half-buried in the snow. She crouched, brushing away the powder, and lifted a small, red glass ornament. The hook was bent, as if it had fallen from a tree long ago.
She smiled softly, turning it in her hand.
“Look,” she said. “It must have been left behind.”
Gavin smiled, watching her. “Seems like the right night to find it.”
Serena closed her fingers around the ornament, warmth blooming in her chest.
“We’ll hang it on our tree,” she said. “Every year. To remember this night.”
Gavin leaned in, kissing her temple.
“I will never forget this night,” he whispered. “Merry Christmas, Serena.”
Snow continued to fall, lights twinkled, and Serena knew—with absolute certainty—that this Christmas Eve would be the one every other Christmas would be measured against.
