The llamas are bringing the drama… are you ready?

The Story

Gavin had seen a lot of unusual cases in his veterinary career, but none had ever followed him home quite like this.

The llamas—Peaches, a petite white fluffball with a penchant for drama, and Biscuit, a cinnamon-colored sweetheart with an easygoing smile—had been brought into the clinic the day before after being rescued from a nearby petting zoo that had suddenly closed. Both were in good health, but Peaches had a small cut on her leg that needed daily cleaning, and Biscuit was on antibiotics for a mild respiratory infection. Typically, Gavin would have arranged for them to stay overnight at the clinic, but the power had gone out unexpectedly after a late-summer storm. So, Gavin had made a snap decision: They were coming home with him.

He had imagined a quiet night: two llamas resting on a pile of blankets in his living room while he sipped coffee and caught up on paperwork. Reality, however, looked more like a fluffy parade. Peaches had trotted through every room, inspecting his decor with a critical eye, while Biscuit discovered that the couch was the perfect place for a nap.

By morning, Gavin stumbled sleepily out of his bedroom, rubbing his eyes and clutching his coffee mug. He was halfway through pulling on his T-shirt when he froze.

There, in his living room, Peaches was standing directly in front of the television, ears perked, eyes wide, utterly engrossed in an animated llama wearing red pajamas. Biscuit lounged comfortably on the couch, nibbling a stale donut Gavin had left on the coffee table.

Gavin blinked, unsure if the scene was real or if he was still dreaming. “Uh… you two know that’s not a documentary, right?”

Peaches ignored him completely, bobbing her head as if agreeing with something the cartoon llama had just said. Biscuit snorted softly, as if to say, Shhh, this is the best part.

Gavin set his coffee down and crossed his arms. “All right, which one of you figured out how to use the remote?”

The only response was the cheerful voice of the cartoon llama singing about bedtime stories.

Shaking his head, Gavin sat down between them. Peaches immediately leaned against his shoulder, Biscuit shifted to make room, and somehow, within minutes, all three of them were watching Llama Llama together.

“Well,” Gavin muttered, taking a sip of coffee, “I guess there are worse ways to spend a Saturday morning.”

And when the next episode started, he didn’t bother turning it off.
