Always Be Yourself… Unless You Can Be a Mermaid
…then, always be a mermaid. (Click for the full-resolution version.)
About the Images
I actually took these photos back in late May. I thought it might be too late to share them, but honestly, I had such a magical time swimming around the beautiful Nemo sim that I decided this mermaid moment still deserved its spotlight.
Serena’s transformation comes courtesy of this charming red-and-white “outfit” (if that’s even the right word for it) by ANTAYA. All the pieces were originally part of the Mermay Hunt, which has long since ended; however, these items will likely be available as a complete set at the ANTAYA mainstore in the future.
Now, as a total mermaid newbie, I didn’t quite know where to begin, and I assumed the tail would be one of the hunt gifts (spoiler: it wasn’t). Turns out, to become an SL mermaid, you need to purchase a tail separately and then add a BOM applier to change your look. There are several brands of tails to choose from, but I opted for the Nemissa tail by Cynefin, as it was the one that worked with ANTAYA’s applier. Tracking down where to buy the tail was a bit of an adventure in itself: it’s available in-world at the Mermade store, but note that Cynefin is no longer actively updating this tail. There are fits for Maitreya Lara and Legacy male and female mesh bodies. Be sure to try a demo before you buy.
The Nemissa tail comes with all the parts you need, including an AO so you can float gracefully like a mermaid, even when you’re a fish out of water. There are other brands that I may want to try later, but for now, Nemissa gets my seal (or sea lion?) of approval.
The photos were inspired by the dreamy Ocean’s Daughter pose pack by -Extra-. Five bento poses are in the pack, all designed to work with the Nemissa mermaid tail as well as regular legs (which is perfect in case your little mermaid decides she wants feet for a day to pursue her prince on land).
All in all, my first SL mermaid adventure was a lot of fun. I’ll definitely be slipping back into my tail again soon!

The Story
Most mermaids are graceful, elegant, and mysterious.
Seraphina was… not quite that.
Oh, she had the beauty: the swirling silvery hair, the radiant sea-glow skin, and a tail that sparkled like red-and-white candy ribbon. Her crown of seashells was a glorious disaster of coral curls, peppermint stripes, and glittering spikes that may or may not have caused a minor incident involving a stingray last week.
But what truly set Seraphina apart was her heart—enormous, expressive, and occasionally loud. She didn’t just swim through the sea; she burst through it, waving at turtles, blowing kisses to octopuses, and teaching baby seahorses how to make hearts with their fins (with limited success).
“I’m not just a mermaid,” she liked to say, “I’m an underwater sparkle ambassador of joy!“

One morning, Seraphina was doing her usual twirls through the Coralveil Trench when she noticed something strange. A gate—old, ornate, and wide open—stood among the ruins she liked to call “Glimmerdeep.” It hadn’t been there yesterday.
“Oooh, mysterious,” she whispered. “Ten points for drama!”
Without hesitation, she zipped through the gate. Beyond it lay a magical ballroom beneath the sea. Chandeliers made of pearl and coral swayed above as if remembering long-forgotten dances. Fish with sequin-scales darted past ancient statues, and a glowing sea orb pulsed softly in the corner. It felt like the ocean had exhaled a secret just for her.
And in the center of it all was a figure: ghostly, regal, and unmistakably fabulous.
“About time you showed up,” said the shimmering woman, adjusting her translucent crown. “We’ve been waiting for you.”
Seraphina blinked. “Are you… a glitter ghost?”
“Technically, I’m Miraluna, Queen of Glimmerdeep,” the ghost said, her shimmering tail flicking gently behind her. “Former ruler of this kingdom and, incidentally, your great-great-grandmermother.”
Seraphina gasped. “I knew my dramatic flair came from somewhere!”
Queen Miraluna chuckled. “There was a storm—enchanted, of course—and the entire court was swept into the depths,” she sighed. “The palace sank, the music stopped, and the world forgot us… until you came along with your sparkly tail and inconveniently large personality.”
Seraphina twirled midwater, her tail flaring like a festive banner. “I can’t believe I’m a real sea princess!”
“Oh, you’re more than that, darling,” the queen said. “You’re a beacon. This kingdom needs love, laughter, and maybe a few bedazzled seashells. And I think you’re the perfect one to bring it back to life!”
Seraphina floated closer, her eyes shining. “I accept! But I hope it’s okay if I run things a little… differently.”
Miraluna smiled. “I wouldn’t have it any other way, dear.”
With that, the queen faded back into the currents, her crown sparkling one last time before vanishing like a bubble pop.
Seraphina swam to the center of the ballroom. The fish gathered around her, swaying in sync, and coral began blooming along the walls, bright, wild, and full of joy.
She blew a kiss to the sea and said, “Let it be known to all: Glimmerdeep is open again for magic, music, and mischief.”
And from that day forward, merfolk traveled from near and far to see the new queen who ruled not with fear or tradition, but with laughter, dance, and seashell hugs.
Because Seraphina wasn’t just a mermaid. She was a red and white legend with lipstick and a whole lot of love. 💕
